Beverley residents, brace yourselves—Weel Bridge is about to disappear! The iconic metal crossing over the River Hull is set to be completely removed and refurbished starting Monday 13 April, in a £1 million project designed to keep the 70-year-old bridge safe and reliable for decades to come.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the essential upgrade will take around 12 weeks, meaning the route between Beverley and Weel will be closed until July. Drivers and cyclists will need to follow diversion routes along Weel Road and the A1035 Bridlington-Beverley road. Even the household recycling site at Weel will be shut, with residents urged to use nearby sites at Hornsea, Driffield, or Humberfield in North Ferriby.
