Residents in Bridlington and South East Holderness are being urged to help shape the future of their communities as part of a major regeneration initiative worth nearly £40 million.
The Government-backed Pride in Place Programme, announced in September 2025, will provide up to £19.6 million each to two areas: Bridlington West and Withernsea East & Patrington. The funding aims to support long-term regeneration and investment driven by local priorities.
As part of the initiative, residents are being encouraged to share their views through online engagement platforms, helping identify the changes and improvements that matter most to their communities.
A key feature of the programme is the creation of neighbourhood boards made up of local residents and community representatives. These boards will play a central role in shaping and approving how the funding is spent, ensuring decisions reflect local knowledge and ambition.
In line with Government requirements, at least 51% of board members must live or work within the area they represent. Expressions of Interest are now open for those wishing to join either the Bridlington West or Withernsea East & Patrington boards.
Two interim chairs have already been appointed to guide the early stages of the programme. Martyn Coltman will oversee the Bridlington West board, while Jayne Nendick has been named interim chair for the Withernsea East & Patrington area.
Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Anne Handley, welcomed the initiative and encouraged community participation.
“We’re proud to support communities across the region, and to support the Pride in Place initiative to help regenerate Bridlington, Withernsea and the wider South East Holderness area,” she said. “We encourage interested residents to find out more and get involved if they can.”
An independent selection committee—led by the interim chairs and supported by local MPs and the council—will oversee recruitment and develop the framework for how the boards will operate.
Residents interested in joining are expected to demonstrate a strong connection to their area, along with relevant knowledge, experience, or a passion for community-led change.
Applications for board positions are open until 12 noon on Monday, April 20, with the selection process—including shortlisting and interviews—expected to conclude in May.
Paper application forms are also available at local venues, including Bridlington Town Hall, Bridlington Business Centre, and Withernsea Leisure Centre.
The Pride in Place Programme is seen as a significant opportunity for residents to directly influence how investment is used to revitalise their communities for the future.
