2017 marks the coming of age of the much loved Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival, (Friday 26 – Monday 29 May) as the Festival celebrates its thirty years of music-making alongside an extraordinary year for culture in the region, as Hull is 2017 City of Culture.

Initiated by the local authority, with the aim of attracting visitors to the area to discover a rich medley of history, striking architecture and music of the past, over the years the Festival has grown to be recognised as a ‘jewel in the cultural crown’

A major music video shoot for Humber Film’s Hull City of Culture 2017 – Creative Communities Programme will take place in the Old Fruit Market in Hull.

The song ‘A Place They Called Forgotten Town’ is a musical and lyrical reworking by Hull-born Henry Priestman of his late 1980’s chart hit ‘Forgotten Town’ by The Christians which was written about the state of the country at the time (the North especially), which particularly affected his home town.

Ferens Art Gallery and Maritime Museum in Hull have welcomed an impressive 21,200 people in just three days, between Friday 13 and Sunday 15 January.

Since opening on Friday, Ferens Art Gallery has attracted over 11,600 visitors, a 1023 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2015 and received more visitors in its first three days compared to the whole of January 2015.

An old photograph dating back to the 1940s has been sent into the HU17.net by Gainsborough resident who hopes it will interesting to someone in Beverley.

The picture that shows an collection of troops in 1947 was discovered after Michael Hill purchased an old frame to put one of his own paintings in when opened revealled the hidden treasure.

Graham Stuart joined East Riding Councillor Jane Evison and a group of constituents as he rode on the Holderness Area Rural Transport (HART) bus to celebrate its achievements and promote its bid to become a registered NHS non-emergency patient transport provider in 2017.

Founded in 2003 to tackle transport needs in Holderness, HART has gone from strength to strength and now has nine vehicles covering the coast from Bempton to Spurn including the market towns of Driffield, Hedon, Withernsea and Hornsea.
