Remarkable Visitor Figures For Ferens Art Gallery And Maritime Museum

Ferens Art Gallery and Maritime Museum in Hull have welcomed an impressive 21,200 people in just three days, between Friday 13 and Sunday 15 January.

Since opening on Friday, Ferens Art Gallery has attracted over 11,600 visitors, a 1023 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2015 and received more visitors in its first three days compared to the whole of January 2015.

The popular Bowhead audio visual exhibition and part of the Made in Hull UK City of Culture programme has increased visitor numbers at the Maritime Museum. In the last week between Monday 9 – Sunday 15 January an impressive 12,430 people visited the Maritime Museum, a 1510 per cent increase for the same period in 2016.

Councillor Terry Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure and Chair of Hull Culture and Leisure Limited, said:

“This is fantastic and I am delighted that both the Ferens Art Gallery and the Maritime Museum are proving so popular with visitors. We expected the two venues would attract a high level of interest; but not this many. It is remarkable.

“This is an encouraging sign for the weeks and months ahead and I really hope people continue to visit the city and enjoy what there is on offer.”

So far, the total number of visitors for both Ferens Art Gallery and Maritime Museum is 31,618 for 2017.

The unique Museums Quarter in the High Street, is also all free of charge, visitors can discover more about Hull’s past and present with 1000’s of artefacts, displays and exhibitions.

Entry is free to all our museums and art gallery and are open: Monday – Saturday 10am – 5pm and Sunday 11am – 4.30pm. The Maritime Museum and Ferens Art Gallery is also open until 7.30pm every Thursday.
