Most East Yorkshire Children Award First Choice Secondary School Place

More than 95% of Year 6 children resident in the East Riding have been awarded places for the school named by their parents/carers as their first preference in the 2020/21 secondary school admissions round.  

Letters to parents/carers informing them of the outcome of their applications for secondary school places in September 2020, are being sent out today, Monday 2nd March.  This is known as ‘National Offer Day’ and is the date that all local authorities in England send the results of applications to parents/carers.

Given the current relentless rain, floods, and gale-force winds it might have been expected that the only winners today would be those who stayed at home or, God forbid, went shopping with their wives.

Happily, the sun came out, the pitch held up pretty well, and only a stiff crosswind hampered what turned out to be an entertaining game. It was not a particularly memorable afternoon but in the end, it was a good win for Beverley.

A Beverley-born classical music star is taking to the Hull City Hall stage this month to play the first public concert since a major refurbishment of the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra’s Steinway.

Robert Markham, an internationally-acclaimed pianist, left the city in the 1980s to pursue his musical career and is returning for the concert on Saturday, February 29.

This year’s Tour de Yorkshire will start in Beverley on Thursday, 30 April. It will go through Tickton, Leven, Catwick, Sigglesthorne, Seaton, Hornsea, Atwick, Skipsea, Beeford, Lissett, Bridlington, Sewerby, Marton, Flamborough, Bempton and Buckton.

New Funding Launched To Help Young People Going Through Bereavement

Organisations in Hull can now apply for grants of up to £10,000 for projects that help young people support each other during bereavement. 

Grants are available through the Co-op Foundation’s #iwill Fund. The Foundation expects to make about five grants in total and organisations have until 12pm (noon) on Friday 3 April to apply.
