East Riding Libraries’ popular virtual book club, Face in a Book Club, has added many new titles.
In honour of the VE Day 75th anniversary, it will offer ‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’ by Heather Morris, the story of how Slovakian Jew Lale Sokolov fell in love with a girl he was tattooing at a concentration camp.

Beverley Town Council had big plans to commemorate this special 75th anniversary of VE Day along with many other organisations, groups and churches within the town. Due to the present pandemic of Coronavirus, all these activities had to be cancelled.
However, this does not stop them from commemorating and celebrating this special occasion in our own homes following the government regulations ‘Stay at Home – Protect the NHS – Save Lives’.
Grants Awarded By Council To Help Commemorate VE Day Anniversary
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is distributing grants from its VE Day Community Fund to help commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
The rural team within the council’s planning department has supported projects proposed by 14 parish councils from the fund and the funding will allow the projects to take place in due course after COVID-19 restrictions are eased.
