Beverley Civic Society’s History Boards: The Friary & Eastgate Board
On 1 October 2020 the tenth history board was put in place in Eastgate, to replace a damaged board there, close to the footage entry to the Friary and Eastgate site.
It is the last in the present phase of these boards, which have been warmly welcomed by visitors and residents. The planning of these boards began in 2017, under the leadership of John Bird.
MP Chairs Committee To Improve Life Chances For People Suffering Cardiac Arrest
Graham Stuart, the MP for Beverley and Holderness, recently chaired the latest meeting of the CADEY Committee, which seeks to improve the life chances of people suffering cardiac arrests in East Yorkshire.
The CADEY campaign, which stands for Community Access Defibrillators for East Yorkshire, was founded by the MP in 2018 in response to the dismal survival rates for cardiac arrests which occur outside a hospital and the lack of publicly accessible defibrillators in the area.
Former Airline Captain From Leeds To Collect COVID Convalescent Plasma
Nick Gifford, 52 from Scarcroft in Leeds, had been working as an airline captain for 13 years before the pandemic hit. He lost his job as flights were grounded across the world.
Nick, the father of two, is now training to collect convalescent plasma as NHS Blood and Transplant urgently calls for more people who have had the coronavirus to donate convalescent plasma in Leeds.
The Humber Talking Community Pod Moves To Swinemoor Estate
The Humber Talking community pod has moved to Swinemoor Estate in Beverley, near to the shops on Samman Road.
The pod, previously located firstly in Hull city centre and then on the Orchard Park Estate, is a space where people can come and talk to police, the fire service and the council about any concerns or issues they might have.

Hull City Council Takes Action Against Businesses That Flaunt 10PM Curfew
Hull City Council is bringing an enforcement action against bars, pubs, restaurants and takeaways that remain open after the 10pm curfew.
The government brought in strict rules last month announcing that hospitality businesses had to close at 10pm as part of plans to limit the spread of coronavirus. Takeaways can still deliver food until 5am, but they cannot have any customers on their premises.

Litter Pickers Donated To Swanland Village Association
Christine Walker, Litter Picking Coordinator for the Swanland Village Association organises a team of over 40 volunteers, young and young at heart, who participate in weekly litter pickings in the centre of Swanland village.
Last month, as part of the Keep Britain Tidy September Clean, a team of around 20 carried out a village-wide litter pick, which they do twice per year, collecting 14 bags of litter in total from the hedges and verges around the village. One volunteer has also collected, over time, a disappointing 145 cigarette butts.
