Mixed Results For Beverley Braves Minis

The Beverley Braves U8s earned well deserved 4 – 4 drawwith . The Beverley Braves lost to the Tigers 5-2 earlier in the season, so this was a good opportunity to see how the team had progressed.

Cottingham opened the scoring from their first attack and may have thought this would be another routine win. However, the Braves have come a long way since March and a typical mazy run from Jacob Parkinson levelled the score and then Samuel Shrimpton found space on the wing to put Beverley into the lead. Cottingham came back with renewed vigour and despite some good tackling they managed to recycle the ball through 4 phases and finally score to level the game at half time.

The second half saw Beverley score two superb tries. Firstly, Louix Gorman drove through a wall of defenders to touch over the line from short range. Then, the Braves scored their try of the season, Jacob Parkinson releasing a long pass to find James Marr in space, who did the rest with a sprint to the line. However, Cottingham scored twice to end the game with a well deserved 4 – 4 draw.

The coach awarded the top tackler trophy to James Marr and the Man of the match to Jacob Parkinson.

Beverley Braves U9s

Despite a gallant effort, Beverley under nines came up slightly short against a decent Wyke side.

Two or three errors proved costly for the Braves as their opponents scored breakaway tries directly off them and in the end, they proved decisive as the home side were always playing catch up on the , the ball must definitely be respected more.

Josh Hamlyn played outstandingly well on his club debut, going over for two well taken tries as a result of some very strong running.

Other notable performances on the night came from Owen Miller, who had a very good dig with and without the ball, Shamus Blades who went very well and also Ellis Gaden, who showed some great footwork.

Coach Craig Collins said afterwards “Success seems largely a matter of hanging on when others have let go.”
