East Riding Students Proudly Show What The NHS Means To Them

Primary and secondary school students across the East Riding took the chance to thank NHS staff and express exactly what the service means to them as the nation came together to celebrate 70 years since its creation.

Students were given the opportunity to exercise their imagination to come up with their own creative representation of what the NHS means to them, with the award of a Fitbit for the overall winning artist.

CCG Celebrates Their ‘Good’ Rating From NHS England

East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is celebrating the publication of NHS England’s annual assessment that demonstrates the CCG has improved its overall rating from ‘Requires improvement’ in 2016/17 to ‘Good’ for 2017/18.

The improved rating reflects a positive year for the CCG across a range of areas including improved performance on a range of clinical indicators making a real difference to patients’ lives, effectively managing changes to services, robust delivery of their financial and efficiency plans, and ongoing positive stakeholder engagement.

Civic Day Celebrates Humber Bridge’s Place At Heart Of Community

Dignitaries and Civic Leaders gathered at the Humber Bridge on Saturday to celebrate the iconic structure’s place at the heart of the local community.

Mayors of Hull, Barton and North Lincolnshire; the Lord Lieutenant of East Yorkshire and Vice Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, and; representatives from the four local authorities and town councils near to the bridge, all took part in the Civic event which included a tour of the bridge and a trip up the north tower.

The hugely popular Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition – developed and produced by the Natural History Museum – will be back in Beverley in July.

Beverley Art Gallery in the Treasure House will host the new 2018 exhibition from Saturday, 14 July to Saturday, 8 September, making it an ideal day out for the summer holidays. During the exhibition’s run, the Treasure House will also be open on Sundays.

Thursday 5 July is 70 years to the day health secretary Aneurin Bevan launched the NHS in 1948, and to celebrate the Hull and East Riding Health Expo will take place at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on Ferensway in Hull.

The event will start at 10am and continue until 4pm, with members of the public invited to come and go throughout the day. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition and meet health professionals and experts from across a range of local health services and innovations. As per previous years there will be a chance to get involved and join in, with a range of games and activities available.

The HMP Humber Art Department, known as GRAFT Studio, is collaborating with Artlink on an immersive and interactive exhibition, focused on the changing landscape and the aspirations of those currently working and living in the secure prison units.

GRAFT’s ethos is to use art as a vehicle to improve confidence, grow self-esteem, and to incrementally transform individuals by engaging them in a pro-active intervention program. Elements and working practices from the Studio will be recreated to allow visitors to observe and take part in the environment, projects, techniques, and journey of HMP Humber’s students.

The housing market for the Beverley area is set for another tough year as economic uncertainties continue to limit any price rises. Despite many government-led initiatives such as the removal of stamp duty, it seems that increased living costs and fears over a rise in interest rates will put many people off buying a new home in 2018.

Last year saw both the number of homes sold and their prices decreasing across the whole of the HU17 area. Compared to a relative high point in 2014, the number of home sales in the HU17 region was at its lowest point since 2009. And when coupled with a sudden drop in prices compared to 2016, it seems that the market is set for a tough year.
