Queen’s Baton Relay Celebrated In The East Riding of Yorkshire

Hundreds of people lined the streets this morning as the East Riding welcomed the Queen’s Baton Relay through Beverley and Market Weighton.

The Baton’s journey started at Beverley Minster with the Mayor of Beverley, Cllr Linda Johnson, chairman of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, John Whittle and portfolio holder for economic investment, growth and tourism at the council, Cllr Jane Evison, present to send the first Batonbearer on their way towards Highgate.

Support For A New Closed Road Car Rally Coming To The East Riding

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is supporting a closed road motor rally heading for East Yorkshire when Beverley & District Motor Club host the East Riding Stages at the end of February.

The event, running on 27 February 2022, follows in the footsteps of the successful Clacton Rally which first ran in 2018 after Motorsport UK gave the green light for competitive events to take place on closed public roads.

This year’s Bridlington Kite Festival drew in big crowds at the weekend with kite-enthusiasts treated to a range of different shapes and designs in the air.

More than 100 kites took to the skies, including Oscar, the world’s largest teddy bear, Bertie Bassett, a stingray, Mario, and a 100m-long dragon made by hand in Bali, according to owner Malcolm Goodman who brought it along to Sewerby Fields in only its second outing.
