The first junior football game to implement smoke-free sidelines will kick off the season on Sunday with an aim to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce chances for children to see adults smoking.
Smoke-free sidelines launched in June, as a joint initiative between Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Hull & District Youth Football League, East Riding Girls League, Active Humber University of Hull, Tigers Trust and East Riding County Football Association.
Thursday 5 July is 70 years to the day health secretary Aneurin Bevan launched the NHS in 1948, and to celebrate the Hull and East Riding Health Expo will take place at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on Ferensway in Hull.
The event will start at 10am and continue until 4pm, with members of the public invited to come and go throughout the day. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition and meet health professionals and experts from across a range of local health services and innovations. As per previous years there will be a chance to get involved and join in, with a range of games and activities available.
The sidelines of all junior football games played in Beverley, Hull and the East Riding will go smoke-free when the new season begins in September.
Partners including Hull & District Youth Football League, East Riding Girls League, Hull City Council, East Riding Council, and East Riding Football Association – which covers Hull – have teamed up to promote healthy lifestyles.
With the UK being branded as the ‘Fat Man’ of Europe people are being urged to think about the steps they can take to lead a healthier lifestyle.
