Cllr Healy Raises Concerns Over Controversial Plans For Phone Mast

Proposals to site a permanent 70ft high telephone mast next to residential houses in the car park of the new Beverley Arms Hotel, are facing strong resistance from local residents.

Councillor Denis Healy has now stepped in so their voices can be heard after the controversial plans were submitted on behalf of two mobile phone operators.

Sheltered Housing Consultation Extension Welcomed By Key Figures

News that East Riding of Yorkshire council have extended the consultation period over plans to remove wardens from sheltered housing has been welcomed by campaigners.

George McManus from the Labour Party in Beverley and LimDem Cllr Denis Healy, who represents Beverley St Mary’s Ward have backed the authorities plans to extend the period of consultation till 15 December.

East Riding Councillors have asked Highways Officers to think again after concluding that Sigston Road residents’ speed concerns “are not reflected in casualties.”

In April this year, following a collision on Sigston Road, 15 year old local resident, Charlotte Burke, organised a petition which was presented to the Council’s Environment and Regeneration overview and scrutiny sub committee in July.

Beverley Community Lift, the local charity that provides transport services for elderly and disabled people, was dealt a severe blow recently when its Chief Executive, Jan Stainforth, received a letter from the Department for Transport, setting out its proposals to impose restrictions that could have a seriously damaging impact on the Charity’s core services, possibly even leading to Beverley Community Lift being forced to close down.

Northern Rail has no intention of axing direct trains from Beverley to Doncaster, says the MP for Beverley & Holderness graham Stuart.

In a statement released Mr. Stuart, said he has received assurances from Northern Rail that the Bridlington to Sheffield service is very likely to continue its stops at Beverley under the new timetable from May 2018 being finalised by Network Rail.

Café Velo, Beverley’s popular themed cycling café in North Bar Within, has been granted a reprieve by planning officers, who just a few weeks ago were recommending that planning permission should be refused; a move which would have led to the closure of the thriving business.

At the Council’s Eastern Area Planning Committee, in June, Café Velo, which had been operating without planning permission for a change of use from retail to restaurant for 12 months, was faced with a recommendation from Council Officers for refused planning permission because certain paperwork wasn’t in order, and there had also been complaints about noise disturbance from local residents.

Residents in Molescroft who were promised a consultation by East Riding Council on yellow lines on their streets, have been left frustrated after being told by the Council that they will have to wait 18 months for anything to be done, and that even then it might not happen.

In April, residents of Orchard Garth, Orchard Close and Woodhall Way approached their ward councillors with a petition calling for yellow lines on their streets because of continual problems with cars parking and blocking access on Orchard Garth and restricting access for emergency services, delivery vehicles and refuse collection lorries.
