Tributes Paid To Son Of Viola Skipper Who Saw So Much In His 104 Years
The son of a former skipper of the Viola trawler who missed out on his own nautical career after being sent by an orphanage to work on a farm has died at his home in Hull at the age of 104.
George Eric Tharratt, who was known as Eric, went from farming into pharmaceuticals and spent 46 years with Smith & Nephew. But he never lost his love of the sea and, with his daughter, Pat, made the first public donations to the campaign to bring the Viola trawler back to Hull.

Employees at Hull-based Ideal Heating and their colleagues across the Groupe Atlantic UK Division are celebrating after raising £47,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support during the past year.
It takes the total amount the company has donated to Macmillan to over £200,000 since its partnership with the charity began in March 2018.
Ceremonial Tree Planting Takes Place In Beverley To Relaunch Humber Forest

In the 1800s there was an explosion of interest in natural history. Clergymen were particularly enthusiastic in embracing the subject, leading to the name parson-naturalist.
The new exhibition, which is now open at the Treasure House in Beverley, ‘Birds, Books and Belfries,’ explores the remarkable life and work of parson-naturalist Reverend Francis Orpen Morris (1810 – 1893) who studied nature, wrote books and campaigned for wildlife, all combined with his role as vicar of Nafferton and later Nunburnholme.
