Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) is recruiting for full-time firefighters once again. Around 2,500 people applied last summer and the whole process begins again now to find another 20 recruits for the next course starting in September 2017.

As the Service is committed to employing a workforce that is representative of the diverse community it serves, a series of taster days will take place across the region throughout February and March for those who may not have ever considered a career in the Fire Service.

The Liberal Democrats are the party now providing the real opposition to the Conservatives at County Hall after all their Councillors opposed the Conservative budget today.

The budget, which introduces a Council tax increase of 4.99%, also sees a reduction of 2.5% to the Council’s Public Health budget, and an eye watering 72% reduction in the Education Services grant, piling further pressures on already over stretched hospitals and schools.

Councillors have agreed to increase the council’s part of the council tax bill by 4.99 per cent for the 2017/18 financial year.

The increase was agreed at a special budget meeting and will see an increase of £62.90 a year for Band D properties.

East Riding Theatre’s new artistic director, Adrian Rawlins, is to make his directorial debut at the theatre with The Night Season by Rebecca Lenkiewicz which opens in March.

Rawlins, an actor on stage and screen for 30 years, (Harry Potter, Dickensian, War and Peace) has recently taken over as artistic director at ERT and launched a programme for the year which promises to be uplifting and life-affirming.
