There Is Still Time To Take Part In This Year’s Hull fREADom Quest

With more than 900 children from across the city already signed up and taking part in this year’s Hull fREADom Quest – Hull Libraries’ very own summer reading challenge – the Libraries team wants to welcome even more children to sign up and take part!

The closing date for this year’s challenge is 21 September 2019, giving readers another four weeks to read their six books to complete the quest.

East Riding County League will kick off next month and will feature six leagues.  Club secretaries are being invited to attend meeting ahead of then to learn about the systems to be used.

Two teams from Beverley will participate in the East Riding County Leagues. Beverley Town Academy will compete in the Premier Divison, while Hodgsons FC will play in division one.

BBC Contains Strong Language Is Back

Tickets for BBC Contains Strong Language, which takes place in Hull September 27th-29th, 2019, are available to book via Hull Truck’s website from Friday 23rd August at 10am.

The three-day festival of national poetry and spoken word returns to Hull following two successful years in the city. Contains Strong Language is produced by the BBC in partnership with Wrecking Ball Press, the British Council, Arts Council England, the Makassar International Writers Festival and others.

Textile Recycling Events Coming To Beverley & Tickton

Residents in Beverley, Hornsea and Tickton are being encouraged to join a summer campaign to boost the recycling of clothes, bedding, shoes and other textiles.

Waste and recycling officers at East Riding of Yorkshire Council are holding a series of textile collection events, inviting residents to bring along their old duvets, sheets, towels, clothes and shoes so they can be recycled and disposed of properly.

‘Enchanterlands Avenue’ Murals Pop Up Around Hull Railway Bridge

New artworks celebrating Hull have been created to liven up an area around a city railway bridge.

The murals in Chanterlands Avenue were produced over the summer after artist Andy Pea and pupils from Thoresby Primary School were tasked by ward councillors to create an enchanting gateway to the avenue.

The East Riding is gearing up to host some of the world’s top para-cyclists to the area next month and businesses, community representatives and residents are invited to a roadshow in Beverley to find out about how to get involved.

On Saturday, 21 September, and running alongside the 2019 UCI Road World Championships, Beverley will host the start of the 2019 Para-Cycling International which will see world-class athletes leave Saturday Market and race through Bishop Burton, Market Weighton, Holme on Spalding Moor, Foggathorpe and Bubwith to the finish in Harrogate.
