New Network Of Defibrillators Across The East Riding

Residents in Beverley and throughout the East Riding can now benefit from a network of defibrillators, thanks to funding from the Smile Foundation, Help for Health, and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Helen Wise of the Hull and East Yorkshire Smile Foundation said : “The Hull and East Yorkshire (HEY) Smile Foundation, works hard to support small local charities and community projects.”

“We are delighted to be involved with the distribution of new defibrillators across Hull and East Yorkshire and thrilled to see the enthusiasm from community groups across our region.”

Last month two Defibrillators, which were partly funded by the Smile Foundation were installed on the Swinemoor Estate in Beverley. Rose Willoughby who was key in driving the project said at the time said that their installation ‘could well make the difference and save someone’s life.’

Many parishes across the area have received – or are about to receive – a defibrillator for their local community, funded either by the Smile Foundation or by the council’s Local Grant Fund, in a project co-ordinated by the council’s economic development service.

Councillor Shaun Horton, said :

“I am very pleased that we have been able to work closely with the Smile Foundation to provide so many of these potentially life-saving devices. It’s an excellent example of a close working partnership, and it could make a real difference to people’s health and wellbeing in the East Riding.”

Defibrillation is a common treatment for life-threatening cardiac conditions, and consists of delivering a therapeutic dose of electrical energy to the heart via a defibrillator.
