Popular Elwell Trail Around Historic Beverley Extended

The popular Elwell Trail, which consisted of 22 reproductions of paintings by Fred or Mary Elwell displayed on external walls in various locations in or near Beverley town centre, has been extended by adding 6 new works. These include three by Mary Elwell, two by Fred Elwell and one by Fred’s nephew Ken Elwell.

B&B Owner Doing His Bit To Raise Cash For Local Hospice

Walter Sweeney, a 71-year-old solicitor and former MP, is doing a sponsored walk of the 79 mile Wolds Way with his miniature Bull terrier Bernard to raise funds for Dove House Hospice.

Commenting on his fundraiser he said that he will be taking care to observe social distancing rules,  keeping at least six feet six inches from the very few other people currently using the route.

Walter Sweeney Backs Incentive To Keep Bevelrey Litter Free

Walter Sweeney has warmly endorsed a campaign that aims to keep Beverley looking good. Launched by Beverley’s Mayor Cllr. Bryan Pearson, Mr Sweeny is fully behind the project to reduce litter in the town.

Mr Sweeney, who will be replacing the veteran politician in the upcoming local elections under the Conservative banner.  Consequently, he is calling for residents to take more responsibility, and keep Beverley tidy.

Jane Yerbury Sweeney – A Tribute From Her Son

My mother Jane Yerbury Sweeney, who was born on 7th. January 1920 and died on 1st. June 2018 at Newbegin House in Beverley, was an extraordinary woman. Brought up in Kensington and Sussex, she was educated at home, mostly by herself. She read widely, but obtained no formal qualifications.

Her mother had been expelled from boarding school while her parents were living abroad, and her father, although he eventually qualified and became an eminent doctor with a successful practice in Kensington, had hated school, so the couple decided to keep Jane and her younger siblings at home.

In 2015, Newbegin House received a “best newcomer” award. This was followed by a “Best Value” award in 2016 and now by a “Best B&B” award in 2017.
