For those seeking inspiration in this period of lockdown, the East Riding Festival of Words has launched its Poetry Competition for 2020.
The competition will reach its climax with an event at North Bridlington Library on Saturday, 28 January, 2021, at 11am, to celebrate the winning poets, hear from the judges, and listen to the winning poems.
From now until 19 July, young East Riding residents are being urged to keep calm and carry on reading, with the Big Spring Read-In.
The aim is to encourage children to read every week and submit online reviews. They will then receive certificates after they have submitted five, ten and 15 reviews.
East Riding Libraries are reminding people that EBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines are all available to download free for East Riding Library members, even though all East Riding Libraries and Customer Service Centres are now temporarily closed.

New parking restrictions will be in place during Hull Fair. Several streets in Hull will have parking restrictions increased to allow only parking for residents with permits during the fair.
Streets will include Granville Street, Lowther Street, Paisley Street, Perry Street, Ruskin Street, Sandringham Street and Walliker Street.
When Beverley Town Council organised the first Food Festival in 2006, little did they know it would go on to be an annual success enjoyed by thousands of people.
The original idea was to bring a few producers from Beverley’s rural hinterland into the town centre to help celebrate local food, so on a crisp Sunday morning in 2006, thirty-five producers set up their stalls along with a small Food Theatre.
Four East Riding Libraries, including Beverley, will be hosting ‘Cuppa and a Chorus’ events. These events are a chance to enjoy making music with a group of friendly people and to also sing.
