Spot Checks On Supermarket Covid Safety

A new drive to keep customers and employees safe in Hull’s supermarkets will see Coronavirus safety checks carried out by the council’s Public Protection Team and Covid Marshals.

Officers will visit supermarkets and similar shops, and assess whether measures in place are adequate. Those who fail to meet the necessary safety standards will be told they must improve, and advice will be given.

Hull City Council Takes Action Against Businesses That Flaunt 10PM Curfew

Hull City Council is bringing an enforcement action against bars, pubs, restaurants and takeaways that remain open after the 10pm curfew.

The government brought in strict rules last month announcing that hospitality businesses had to close at 10pm as part of plans to limit the spread of coronavirus. Takeaways can still deliver food until 5am, but they cannot have any customers on their premises.

Change Is Coming To Wilson Centre In Hull

Hull City Council’s flagship Customer Service Centre on Alfred Gelder Street will see a meet and greet area created, alongside a number of new online stations where customers can access services, as well as new cash kiosks, a waiting area and private interview rooms.

Public Spaces Protection Order Extended For Three More Years

The former Riverside and Wyke areas will continue to be protected by a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), following a decision record approving an extension to the order.

The PSPO was established to address alcohol influenced anti-social behaviour within these areas of the city and requires a review every three years. The order gives the council or police the power to request anyone within the area surrenders alcohol, should it be required.

A director of a second-hand car business who misled consumers over the cars they bought, including failing to tell buyers their vehicles had previously been written off, and has been sentenced at Hull Magistrates Court.

Todor Neychev, 37, of West Hull admitted three offences under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations and one under the Road Traffic Act between April and May 2017.

A rogue trader who tricked Hull residents into paying him for work he did not complete – and in some cases did not even start – has been ordered to stop and repay the consumers over £8,800.

Sean Ross, 35, of East Hull, who traded as Example Bathrooms, failed to comply with his obligations under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and breached an undertaking to repay the consumers he had dealt with.

Mohammed Usman, 36, of Highfield Lane, Keighley, who ran Eco Warm Home Improvements Ltd, based at Office 3, Burnett Street, Bradford, admitted negligence causing his company to commit offences under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations between May 2015 and March 2016.
