Trading standards officers are investigating a number of garages across the East Riding after they were found to be selling part-worn tyres that were dangerous to the public.

As part of a Yorkshire and Humber-wide survey, trading standards officers from East Riding of Yorkshire Council visited four garages selling part-worn.

Safer Sleep Week Roadshow To Take Place In Beverley

Safer Sleep Week is an annual campaign run by the Lullaby Trust to raise awareness of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and the safer sleep advice that reduces the risk of it occurring.  Sadly, around five babies a week in the UK die from SIDS.

This year, the focus of Safer Sleep Week is on co-sleeping.  It is estimated that by the age of three months half of all babies born in England and Wales will have slept in an adult bed with one or both parents, whether intended or not.

Nappy Incentive Launched To Educate Parents About Waste Disposal

Parents in the East Riding are being urged to support a new nappy campaign. The new campaign has been by the council to help prevent costly contamination in recycling bins.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s waste recycling team has started the scheme as they want to encourage parents to put all their babies’ waste in their green bins.

High Proportion Of Year Six Pupils Assigned School Of Choice

More than nine out of ten Year 6 children in the East Riding have been awarded places for the school named by parents as their first choice in the 2019/20 secondary school admissions round.  

Letters to parents, informing them of the outcome of their applications for secondary school places in September 2019, are being sent out today, Friday 1st March.  This is known as ‘National Offer Day’ and is the date that all local authorities in England have to send the letters out to parents.

The council are hoping more people will spot the signs which will help increase survival rates. Figures show that if detected early people 81pc chance of survival. While if found later this figure drops dramatically to just 26pc.
