Liberal Democrat councillors are celebrating after the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has finally brought forward a planning application to construct the long-awaited Beverley Park & Ride.

The Liberal Democrats on East Riding Council have been campaigning for two years to persuade the council to bring forward the construction phase of the Park and Ride,  but their proposals put forward to full Council on four occasions over the last two years have always been blocked by the ruling Conservative group.

A bid to restore a 40-mile direct rail route between Hull and York has today been given the green light by Government Ministers.

The bid, sponsored by Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart, will now receive support from officials at the Department for Transport as well as funding for 75% of the cost of creating a business case, up to a maximum of £50,000.

Easy Bathrooms, which was launched in Leeds in 2012, has opened a new showroom at The Trade Yard Willerby, part of the series of sites developed by Hull-based Allenby Commercial in recent years to support the construction and DIY sector.

Two brothers who followed their father into the pub trade have overcome cynics and staff shortages to open a second bar in their home village in 14 months, creating nearly 30 jobs in the process.

Chris and Simon Leahy admitted they were taking a gamble with plans to open Raph’s Lounge so soon after the launch in August last year of Cassiel Bar and Kitchen, which is across the road in Cottingham, East Yorkshire.

Hull City Council has appointed Gillian Osgerby as the Project Director to deliver a major transformation and regeneration project in the city.

Gillian will be responsible for delivering the £30.3m Hull Maritime project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Hull City Council. It involves the transformation of five key maritime treasures — Arctic Corsair, North End Shipyard, Spurn Lightship, Dock Office Chambers and the Hull Maritime Museum.

In Remembrance week 2021, we honour the achievements of one of Hull’s own, Private Jack Cunningham VC, whose story of bravery in the face of the enemy has been brought back to life after the restoration of a 104-year-old piece of cinematic history.

John Cunningham, who was usually known as Jack, came from a traveller family and was the eldest son of Charles Cunningham, a licensed pot hawker and his wife Mary Ann. He had six brothers and just like his father, was a hawker.
