Bridlington Recognised As A National Beach Volleyball Hub

Bridlington South Beach has been granted FIVB (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball) status and recognised as a national hub for GoSpike Beach Volleyball by Volleyball England.

In the past 12 months, over 3500 people have been engaged in organised and informal Beach Volleyball, and the success of events such as the Bridlington Beach Open and Volleyball England Beach Tour have shown Bridlington to be a showcase beach to host major events.

Their real name is ‘Guernsey’, but they have always been referred to as ‘ganseys’ in Britain. The gansey came into being as a garment for fishermen who required a warm, hard wearing, yet comfortable item of clothing that would resist the sea spray.

Six Drug Warrants Executed During Operation Windsor

Last week in Hull we launched Operation Windsor in response to Heroin use in the city, with six Misuse of Drug act warrants being executed at properties in the city, resulting in Heroin being seized, four people being charged with drug offences and two further people released under investigation while enquiries continue.

The operation is a new initiative to divert Heroin users into support, deter them from crime that funds their habit and targeting enforcement activity on the organised crime groups.

A Holderness woman must now pay over £1,500 after being prosecuted for a second time for failing to update the contact details on her dog’s microchip, which costs just £16.

Lorna Caddy, 38, of Main Street, Great Hatfield, failed to appear at Beverley Magistrates on Wednesday, 26 April where she was facing a charge under the Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015, which came into force in April last year.

Graham Stuart MP has received a welcome boost to his campaign for the EU to scrap its new regulation which prohibits the Holderness onshore fishermen from landing Sea Bass.

Graham met onshore fisherman Shaun Wingham and his wife Penny in Withernsea recently to hear about the impact of the new EU regulation which prohibits them from landing Sea Bass. Shaun and his colleagues fish using a net that is stretched out along the beach at low tide, allowing the catch to be brought in when the tide retreats again. Sea Bass is the most valuable part of their haul.

Thousands of spectators are expected to line the streets of the East Riding on Friday, 28 April as the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire gets underway in Bridlington before passing through East Yorkshire and taking in Driffield and Pocklington for the first time.

The ceremonial start takes place outside Bridlington Spa, at 12.35pm, before the riders leave the town, passing by East Riding Leisure Bridlington and out via the A614.
