Ferens Art Gallery, the jewel in Hull’s cultural crown, has been selected as one of the five finalists for Art Fund Museum of the Year 2018, regarded as the largest and most prestigious museum prize in the world.

The annual award celebrates innovation and exceptional achievement in museums and galleries across the UK. The announcement was made by Stephen Deuchar, Art Fund’s Director, last night (Tuesday 1 May) via BBC Radio 4’s Front Row.

Hull’s open top city tour will return for 2018, and this time it’ll run for even longer. The Hull Explorer open top tour bus was launched in Summer 2017, taking visitors on a guided tour around the city to see Hull’s most iconic sights, such as Queen Victoria Square, Old Town, Hull Minster, The Deep and the Marina.

Run by local bus company EYMS, will run for the early May bank holiday weekend and May half term this year, as well as an extended run over the summer holidays and follows what was a successful 2017 season.

Kilham’s James Cowton kicked off his 2018 roads season in race winning style, yesterday at the KDM Hire Cookstown 100, as the McAdoo Kawasaki racer added a feature Supersport success on the Orritor circuit, to his already ultra decorated roads CV.

Despite showing, accomplished, consistent form in qualifying, it’s fair to say the former Duke Road Race Rankings champion went into race day at Cookstown, a touch under the radar.

The sky over Sewerby Fields, in Bridlington, is set to be awash with colourful kites as part of a two-day festival, hosted East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Active Coast programme and the Northern Kite Group and sponsored by St Stephen’s Shopping Centre (Hull).

The event will take place on Saturday, 19 and Sunday, 20 May and will see displays from a number of internationally-renowned experts as well as traditional fairground rides and a food village, with plenty of local produce on offer to create the perfect picnic.
