Join East Riding Libraries For A Library Safari This February Half Term

There will be a chance to join East Riding Libraries this February Half-Term (20-24 February) for an animal -themed storytime, inspired by the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition at Beverley Art Gallery, which runs from 11 February to 22 April.

The libraries team have selected some fun stories including ‘One to Ten, Animal Mayhem’ by Thomas Flintham, ideally suited to pre-schoolers; and David Walliams’s ‘First Hippo on the Moon’ which is fun for all the family.

The final celebrations of Beverley Building Society’s 150th Anniversary will take place on 27 June with a garden party. To mark the occasion the Society will bury a time capsule. Local residents are invited to include an item that will be uncovered in 2067.

The time capsule will be buried on the premises, containing various items including a passbook, documents and photographs. The Society is appealing to members of the public to help fill it with objects that future generations will find interesting.

With Beverley Under 14s Yorkshire Plate Final match against Ripon postponed, they accepted an invitation for a training match against Hullensians, probably one of the best teams in Yorkshire.

Panel Supports Commissioner’s Proposal To Raise Police Precept

Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter presented his proposals to raise the portion of council tax used to pay for policing, known as the police precept, to the Humberside Police and Crime Panel. The panel voted unanimously in favour of an increase of 1.99%.

The Commissioner proposed the precept increase for 2017/18, meaning the amount paid on a typical Band D property would rise by around 7p per week from £183.67 to £187.33 for the year.
