Places Still Available At Tour de Yorkshire Roadshows

Places are still available for business and community representatives in Driffield and Pocklington to find out more about what they can do to make the most of the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire.

Hosted by Welcome to Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the free roadshows will be taking placed at Driffield Showground on Wednesday, 15 February, from 10am-12.30pm, and at The KP Club, Kilnwick Percy, York, on Wednesday, 22 February, from3-5pm.

The sessions will include a short presentation, detailed information of the new route, advice on how to make the most of this world-class event and a Q&A opportunity.

Representatives of Welcome to Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire Council will also give advice around brand guidelines and how your business and community can make the most of the opportunity.

The first roadshow, held at Spa at the end of January was very successful, with over 50 people in attendance.

Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“The Tour de Yorkshire is a first-class sporting spectacle, which this authority is proud to support.

“The first two events have proved extremely popular with residents, visitors, businesses and local communities who all came together to celebrate all that is good about Yorkshire.

“The race helps promote the East Riding to both national and international audiences and we would encourage anyone with an interest to come along to the roadshow and find out how they can contribute in making this year’s race the most successful yet.”

Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:

“The Tour de Yorkshire is synonymous with spectacular racing and huge crowds, and every year it just gets bigger and better.

“One of the special things about the race is the way local businesses and communities come out to support it. These roadshows will not only inspire you with fun ways to do that, they also provide a platform for you to ask any questions you might have, and to find out how everyone can get involved.”

Bridlington will host the race start on Friday, 28 April, similar to the inaugural event in 2015.

The race will start outside Bridlington Spa in front of a large crowd, anticipated to be in the tens of thousands, before the riders leave the town passing the new £25 million East Riding Leisure Bridlington.

As well as the picturesque East Yorkshire scenery, the race will also pass the historic Hall on its way to Driffield.

The peloton will ride through the centre of the town, known as the Capital of the Wolds, and head towards Pocklington for the race’s first intermediate sprint and then on to the Cote de Garrowby Hill for the first categorised climb before heading into North Yorkshire for the completion of Stage 1 in .

Stage two of the event, on Saturday, 29 April, starts in Tadcaster and finishes in Harrogate and stage three, on Sunday, 30 April, starts in with the race finish in Fox Valley, Sheffield.
