Inspirational Riders Named To Lead Out Cycle Ride Ahead Para-Cycling International

Four local people who have used cycling to overcome personal set-backs or inspire others to ride are to lead out a parade cycle ride ahead of the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International.

For the first time, the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International will take place alongside the UCI Road World Championships and will see world-class para-athletes leave start points in Beverley, Tadcaster and Wetherby.

Dry Stone Wall Makes For New Feature On Beverley’s Iconic Westwood

A traditional dry stone wall built by Beverley born Australian citizen Emma Knowles has recently become a new feature on Westwood common. Emma is one of only five female Dry Stone Walling Association (DSWA) Advanced Dry Stone Wallers in the world, and the only advanced waller and instructor operating in the southern hemisphere.

Emma is currently in England fulfilling the requirements of a Fellowship awarded to her by the International Specialized Skills Institute, as well as managing her mother’s estate following the death of Pat Knowles late last year.

A new exhibition exploring the intriguing work of a local medical illustrator will open at the Treasure House, Beverley, on Saturday, 21 September.

Mysteries Inside Us: Medical Illustrations by Annamaria Dutto will showcase an overview of the artist’s professional practice, and includes early pencil drawings from her training in hospitals and contemporary digital pieces produced using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

The British Council, in collaboration with Absolutely Cultured, is launching an international mobility bursary for Hull-based emerging cultural leaders.

The funding will see £12,500 distributed as individual bursaries of up to £1,000 which are available to enable an international opportunity that will support professional development for emerging cultural leaders working in arts, education and civil society (including third sector, charities and community-based organisations).

Dumfries trainer Iain Jardine challenged Five Helmets to claim a third victory at Beverley in the feature race of the penultimate fixture of the season on Wednesday.

The three-year-old gelding clearly enjoys competing in the East Yorkshire air. After all, he won at Beverley last August, when in the care of Tom Dascombe, before repeating the dose on the Westwood late last month.
