Part-Pedestrianisation Pilot For Saturday Market Welcomed By Lib Dems

Liberal Democrat councillors on Beverley Town Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council have given their support for plans to pilot a part-pedestrianisation scheme in Beverley’s Saturday Market.

The majority of businesses surveyed are overwhelmingly behind the scheme, which will see an extension to the pavement area from the Grapes to the Yorkshire Bank, taking in the King’s Head and businesses on the east of Saturday Market as well as Browns.

The third phase of a £1m scheme to improve roads in Beverley town centre and beyond is due to begin next month.

As part of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council scheme, work began in June to resurface parts of Norwood and North Bar Without, followed by work in Lairgate, Armstong Way, with Corporation Road and Samman Road to follow later this month.

New figures published by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) show that last year (2019/20) 1,580 people in the UK donated their organs after they died. In East Riding Of Yorkshire, 11 people gave the gift of life, by donating their organs after death.

The national deceased organ donor figures were on course to surpass the previous year’s total, but unfortunately, the global COVID-19 pandemic hit in March and had a wide-reaching impact across the whole NHS and every aspect of UK society.
