Hull Residents Being Urged Love Their Streets And Not Dump Litter

A team dedicated to tackling poor waste standards in hot-spot areas of Hull will be out on the streets talking to residents about their environmental concerns. 
 
Four highly-visible environmental improvement officers will be visiting residents and carrying out community surveys to understand what issues affect different areas of the city. 
 
The environmental officers will be introduced to hot-spot areas including Newington and Gipsyville, St. Andrews and Docklands, University, Avenue, Beverley and Newland, and Central wards of the city.
 
They will act as the eyes and ears of the community to tackle issues such as repeat fly-tips, poor waste containment, and high levels of waste on private land and in household forecourts which are currently contributing to low environmental standards in the city. 
 
Councillor Anita Harrison, portfolio holder for waste management, said:
 
“Improving environmental standards is a top priority for the council, and the Love Your Street programme will not only give our waste teams the opportunity to work more closely with communities, but will also support them in seeking to improve their quality of living.”
 
Residents will also be introduced to an educational waste programme encouraging them to sign a pledge and become ‘street stars’ for their area to ensure the work that takes place has a lasting effect. 
 
Cllr Harrison continued: 
 
“We want to put pride back in our neighbourhoods, so the team will engage with all areas of the community with a view to empowering residents and encouraging the longer established residents and landlords to take ownership of their local areas.
