The local East Riding Dementia Friendly charity is hoping to increase participation on Thursday 28 September at the popular dementia friendly film screenings.

Screenings are held every other month at the Parkway Cinema in Beverley and are organised by local volunteers for those living with dementia, their carer`s, families and friends.

The upbeat films that are screened have a real flavour of nostalgia, humour and simple enjoyment.

Previous films have included some of the classic comedies for example “Some Like it Hot” and “The Italian Job”.

Simon Foster a trustee and volunteer with the dementia friendly charity said;

“We had a good turnout in August with over fifty people attending and would like to encourage more people along for the 28 September screening which will feature “Their Finest” a cracking romantic comedy set in the 1940s with star performer Bill Nighy.”

The films are screened at a reduced volume and there are no advertisements or trailers. Increased lighting and additional signage around the cinema add to the comfortable experience.

“A morning at the Parkway Cinema in Beverley is much more than just watching a film,” continued Simon.

“We offer free refreshments on arrival and the chat before and after the film makes it a very pleasurable social event.”

“Though most people come along from local East Riding homes there is an increasing number who arrive from home with their family and friends”.

“Our first movie will be “Their Finest” and this will be screened at 11.15 am on Thursday 28 September. Arrive between 10.30 am and 11 for coffee, tea and biscuits!”
