Celebrating Childcare In The East Riding

Celebrating Childcare In The East Riding

has celebrated the achievements of childcare settings which have received the National Portage Association’s Stamp of Approval award.

The East Riding has the greatest number of settings in the UK to have achieved the award, which is a quality assurance scheme granted to settings which can demonstrate that they deliver high quality inclusive education.

Two of its children’s centres, and Brough, are the first children’s centres in the country to receive the award.

The Stamp of Approval has also been awarded to the Fir Trees Nursery School in Tickton and Elloughton Day Nursery, as well as Deborah Waite, of Pocklington, who has become the first childminder in the East Riding to receive the award.

They were presented with certificates at a celebration event held at the Treasure House in Beverley, by Tracy Stephenson, National Portage Association regional consultant.

Portage is a home visiting educational service for pre-school children with additional support needs, and their families.

The East Riding now has 10 settings which have received the award, which has previously been presented to the Kiddycare Day Nursery at Burstwick; New Pasture Community Pre-School, Bridlington; Rainbow Pre-school, Goole; the Rocking Horse Nursery at Driffield and Day Nursery.

Councillor Julie Abraham, portfolio holder for children, young people and education, said:

“This is an example of the excellent work that is carried out in our childcare settings and children’s centres to ensure that every child has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.”
