Swinemoor Primary School Celebrate World Book Day

Pupils at Swinemoor Primary School in Beverley have been marking World Book Day with a range of events based around literacy.

To get into the spirit of things children at the school got dressed up as characters from their favourite books.

On show were a number of characters that included the likes of Harry Potter, The Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland and a Storm Trooper from Star Wars.

As well as the usual activities the day also marked the launch of the schools second book which features a number stories that each and every one of the pupils at Swinemoor Primary School have contributed to.

The book which is called Swinemoor Stories will be handed out to the pupils so they can take their work home to show parents and family members.

Digital Media Consultant John Robson said;

“The idea of the day is to promote literacy among the children while also helping them generate content for an audience.”

“While we publish work on our website, for the children is much nicer for them to have a book to be able to hold and feel show people that they have been published in.”

“This is the second time we’ve produced the book, Swinemoor Stories as a school and we will be sending copies out to some members of the local community.”

World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly it’s a celebration of reading.

Now in its 19th year World Book Day brings children of all ages together so they can appreciate reading, very loudly and very happily.

It is the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

World Book Day in the UK has a goal to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading a book of their own.
