Beverley Set To Light The Sky For Santa and Rudolph!

As fast approaches, Beverley for the first time is set to light up the whole town with a Christmas Lights Switch-on spectacular the likes of which have never seen before!

The evening’s events on Wednesday 30th November, will start from 6pm at Wednesday Market with the Christmas Tree Lights Switch-on performed by Lady Prescott, followed by the Christmas Lights Volunteer Group’s street performance of the Nativity re-enacting the key scenes with a modern twist.

The Nativity procession will then be stopping at Angel Square, Wilkinson’s corner with a grand finalé at Saturday Market, with and the 140 strong All for One Choir. With local brass , local street entertainers and traditional food sellers along the way, adding a truly traditional Christmas flavour.

The evening continues with the lighting of for the first time in 114  years, in conjunction with the . The switch-on to be performed by the Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, the Hon Mrs Susan Cunliffe-Lister. Followed by a selection of Christmas songs performed
by the All for One choir.

“We are expecting Beverley to be bustling for the brightest Christmas lights Switch-on event that Beverley has ever seen. There certainly will be something  for everyone of all ages as the event for the first time will take place right across the town,“ said Julian Minshall, Chair of the late night Christmas lights group (Beverley Chamber of Trade).

“There will be lots happening from 6pm on the night and we’d like to encourage people to pop down early as not to miss out on this fun and festive family occasion.”

Throughout the evening Viking FM will be broadcasting live from Saturday Market and with all the retailers creating their own Christmas theme in-store for the late night opening until 8pm, it proves to be a truly magical event for all!

  1. What a wonderful achievement by the volunteer workers! To think just a few years ago the Christmas lights were a bad joke, poorly supported, especially by the large chain stores many of whom did not even have the small Christmas tree. This year’s switch on sounds fantastic and if it is the success it deserves to be will make the Beverley Lights a really wonderful annual attraction. Well done everyone who has worked for this and Thank You All!!
