Tanners Show Spirit In Charity Rugby Clash

A big crowd enjoyed an Easter Sunday to remember when Hodgsons FC and Beverley ARLC clashed in a charity / league extravaganza at .

The touchline was crammed with supporters of both clubs – plus a fair number of neutrals – enjoying a beer or five on another lovely spring day.

And they weren’t let down by the quality of sport on display.

The two teams first played full-contact rugby league, with Hodgsons acquitting themselves surprisingly well despite some bone-crunching tackles from Beverley.

Steve Grantham pulled the strings in the backs for The Tanners, his distribution earning him admiring glances from the rugby league cognoscenti. Some Tanners players looked less than enthusiastic, however, with Danny Cartwright in particular looking as though he wanted to be anything else than the meat in a Blue and Golds tackle sandwich.

It was a closely-fought contest, but eventually the Blue and Golds’ superior fitness and bulk told as they inched to a 4-3 victory in a game without conversions.
