A young singer-songwriter from Beverley will make her debut at the Spirit of Yorkshire’s Distillery Sessions next month.

Having completed a MSc in Molecular Medicine, Rachel Makena is now turning her attention to her lifelong passion for music and will perform on the 31 January at the intimate Hunmanby venue where Yorkshire’s first single malt whisky, Filey Bay is being produced.

East Yorkshire Community Groups Receive Grants From YOR4Good Fund

Four community groups in the East Riding and Hull have benefited from a grant scheme set up by five Yorkshire councils and funded by the construction industry.

Driffield Methodist Church, North Ferriby Primary School, Beverley Town Jaguars Under-16s and Rooted in Hull received a combined total of more than £30,000 in the latest round of awards from the YOR4Good fund.

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, has written to schools in Beverley and Holderness to encourage them to get involved in the National Cyber Security Centre’s CyberFirst Girls’ Competition.

Created in 2016 as part of the Government’s National Cyber Security Strategy to respond to evolving digital threats to the country’s infrastructure, the NCSC runs CyberFirst; which is a series of freely available short cyber courses aimed at teaching children aged 11-17 about cybersecurity.
