MATCH REPORT : Beverley RUFC Vs Heath

For the second consecutive Saturday, Beverley RUFC entertained Heath, this time in the Yorkshire Shield Quarter final, and again triumphed in a fast exciting game.

From the kick-off Heath attacked and kept up the pressure on the Beavers’ line for the first ten minutes until Beverley managed to break out and move upfield with some good interpassing.

However, Heath won a turnover and back they came, eventually scoring after 20 minutes through right winger Brown to take a 5 point lead.

Beverley came back strongly and settled down playing some good rugby and retaining ball possession very well.

On 30 minutes they were rewarded when scored a try which converted to make it 7-5. Shortly after this as half time approached the Heath full back Pollard received a yellow card for a high tackle and the Beavers took advantage with James Graham scoring an excellent try, again converted by Phil Duboulay (14-5).

Beverley started the second half well and their much smaller pack of forwards, having held their own in the first half, started to push the Heath eight around. Eventually, after 50 minutes Will Turnbull went over for his second try and again Phil Duboulay added the extras (21-5). By now Heath were looking decidedly dejected and the Beverley forwards rampant.

After a further 20 minutes of almost continuous Beverley pressure and a series of penalties which the Beavers chose to scrum, the Heath No 8 was yellow carded and the referee awarded Beverley a penalty try (28-5).

Heath centre Hinchcliffe almost caught Beverley napping with a quick drop out Daniel Thomson was alert enough to gather the ball and race away back down the pitch to set up Will Harrison for his weekly try! (33-5).

At the death the impressive Jordan Bradford scored a consolation try for Heath to round off the scoring at 33 points to 10.

This was a magnificent performance from Beverley. For the second week running they disposed of one of the promotion favourites and of particular satisfaction today was the way in which the forwards fronted up to the much vaunted Heath pack.

With tight head prop taking the man of the match award, they created a great platform for their classy backs to exploit.

Next Saturday Beverley travel to Scarborough to take on another of the top teams and will do so in good heart.
