A ‘stunning and unique’ film documenting the day Hull was split in two by the Open Bridges project will be screened in the Art Gallery at Beverley’s Treasure House this month.

The 20-minute film, which is free to view and open to the public in normal gallery hours, will be on continuous loop until mid-June as part of a new display.

A new solo sculpture exhibition by David Sprakes will be at Beverley Art Gallery in the Treasure House from Saturday, 5 May to Saturday, 30 June.

The free exhibition includes fifty sculptures with drawings and research. The work is inspired by landscape and east coast vistas where sculptures in bronze, aluminium, steel, marble and acrylic evoke a sense of ageing, time and weathering.

East Riding Archives Hits Its 400,000th Catalogue Entry!

East Riding Archives, based at the Treasure House in Beverley, started cataloguing on its collections database in January 2000 and has recently completed its 400,000th entry.

It’s taken 18 years of hard work to get there and has meant a cataloguing rate of, on average, 22, 222 documents per year.

East Riding Archives have published a new book – ‘Times of Old Retold’ – with a unique collection of memories of life in the East Riding during the twentieth century.

The book has been edited by Dr Alex Ombler, and represents the conclusion of an oral history project carried out in 2017 by the Archives and Local Studies service, guided by Dr Ombler, which aimed to record and archive the everyday experiences and memories of local individuals and communities.

As the anniversary to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I approaches later this year, Molescroft Parish Council has restored the village’s Roll of Honour.

Parish Councillors David Boynton & Jackie Heffer formed a working group, with the aim of restoring the Roll of Honour which lists the names of 20 Molescroft servicemen who took up the call to arms in the conflict. The roll records the death of only one serviceman Lieutenant Edmund Wigfall Military cross.
