Organisers of a spectacular Platinum Jubilee flotilla and flypast have revealed plans to apply the finishing touch to the celebrations by flying the Union Flag from two of the highest points in the region.
Hessle Town Council has secured an agreement with the Humber Bridge Board to raise the flags on each of the two towers of the Bridge on the evening of Wednesday 1 June, the eve of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Humber Estuary will provide the stage for a spectacular celebration and re-enactment to mark this year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Hessle Town Council is leading the project to launch a flotilla of 70 vessels which will set sail on Thursday 2 June – the official date of the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty’s coronation.
With the Tour de Yorkshire starting their race this year in Beverley, organisers of the event were in town to provide an insight into the event and what people can do to get involved.
On 28 August, all of the entries were evaluated anonymously by the judging panel, which included Councillor Chad Chadwick, chairman of the council; Sally Hayes, Beverley Art Gallery curator; and Ian Rayner, tourism service manager.
Despite the wet weather, community spirits have not been dampened with celebrations taking place across the East Riding for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Torch Relay.
The annual Tickton Garden Party was held on the 7th July. As it is the Jubilee year a “special” guest made an appearance! The event was well attended helped by the surprisingly fine weather.
Staff from Sainsbury’s donated £700 to the friends of St Nicholas Primary School. In a special assembly Mel Steel, a manager at Sainsbury’s presented the cheque to head teacher Liz Pollard.
Residents from the St Nicholas area of Beverley held a street party to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Held in the school field children enjoyed games, a bouncy castle and a picnic.

Residents at Keldgate Bar were joined by friends from around Beverley as they held a street party to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Around thirty, people got together with plenty of red, white and blue on display.
