East Riding Museums are inviting visitors to take part in the ‘5 Things to Discover’ challenge.
There are five activities for families with young children to enjoy at each museum: Sewerby Hall and Gardens, Treasure House, Beverley Guildhall, Skidby Windmill and Goole Museum.
Following the government announcement last week, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has issued updates about the first phase of the reopening of its museums including Goole, Beverley Guildhall and the Treasure House, as well as the archives service.
To ensure the safety of customers and staff, the facilities will look very different from the service provided before lockdown. Social distancing guidelines and safety will guide the way in which museums, the Archives and the Treasure House will operate.
East Riding Museums have unveiled even more activities for under 5s (including babies) and their families during this period when people are having to spend more time at home.
The new suggested activities – Boats, Windmills and Beverley Town – are inspired by Goole Museum, Skidby Mill, and Beverley Guildhall and feature ideas for music and signing, craft, role play, sensory experiences, and messy play.
East Riding Museums may be closed at the moment, but there are still ways to enjoy their unique and fascinating collections.

A new exhibition called Transforming the Town opens at the Beverley Guildhall this March.
The exhibition will use old photos alongside more recent ones to form a timeline which reveals some of the dramatic transformations that have taken place in Beverley over the years.
Beverley Guildhall’s winter exhibition this year will be “Looking at Lairgate – Beverley’s Back Street”.
The new exhibition opens on Wednesday, 27 November and runs through to 13 March 2020. Those involved say this type of exhibition is very popular.
Families and Early Years Foundation Stage groups can now take part in the Creative Families Award at any museum run by East Riding Museums.
Little creatives aged between one and four can take part in the Award during their visit to the museum, which could be Sewerby Hall and Gardens, Goole Museum, Skidby Mill, Beverley Guildhall, or also the Treasure House in Beverley.
The Beverley Guildhall is offering ‘a little something extra’ during August. From Friday, 2 – Friday, 30 August there will be a table-top exhibition of paintings by local artist Tony Snowden.
The exhibition is entitled “Out of the Rain: People in Everyday Places”, and is in addition to the current local history exhibition, Edwardian Beverley: a snapshot in time.
A new exhibition, “Edwardian Beverley: a snapshot in time”, opens at the Beverley Guildhall on Wednesday, 24 July.
Using photographs taken by ordinary people with the newly-developed Box Brownie cameras, this well-illustrated exhibition shows the people and places of the town as they were at the start of the 20th century.
Beverley Town Council’s Lib Dem group leader, Cllr Denis Healy has congratulated Cllr Duncan Jack on his appointment as Mayor of Beverley.
Cllr Jack will be supported by his wife Joy in the role. He replaced the outgoing Mayor, Bryan Pearson at an event held at the Beverley Guildhall.
Tickets are available now for a new series of Heritage Talks at Beverley Guildhall – a chance to discover more about the fascinating heritage of the town and the surrounding area.

An exhibition looking at the long history of boat building in Beverley opens at the Beverley Guildhall on Wednesday, 20 March.
The exhibition has been called ‘Trawling Through Time’. It will be linked it with the project of the same name currently underway in the East Riding Archives.
Beverley Civic Society have published a new book, Extraordinary Women of Beverley.
Last year the Society had different speakers talking on women whose lives had been extraordinary, all connected with Beverley.
A Beverley election steeped in ancient tradition is due to take place at the town’s Guildhall when 12 new Pasture Masters and two auditors will be chosen by the Pasture Freemen.
The election will take place between 9am and 4pm on Friday 1 March 2019.
Beverley Guildhall this week opened a new exhibition called Extraordinary Women.
The exhibition looks at women from the town who have made their mark in history for a whole host of reasons.
This year sees the 50th anniversary of Beverley’s designation as a Conservation Area. To celebrate this anniversary a new exhibition, “Conservation 50”, is now open at the Beverley Guildhall.
Response to the exhibition has been very positive, many visitors commenting that they were unaware how much of the town was included in the Conservation Area. Many also feel that the exhibition helps them to appreciate the town in a different way.
Cllr Bryan Pearson has been elected as the new Mayor of Beverley at a ceremony held at the Beverley Guildhall taking over from the outgoing Mayor, Cllr Ann Willis.
Cllr Pearson was nominated by Cllr Phil Dodsworth and Cllr David Elvidge who both paid tribute to his lifelong dedication to serving the town.
A new exhibition,Beverley’s Satellite Villages, opens at the Beverley Guildhall on Friday, 23 March, with a preview on 21 March.
Beverley’s Satellite Villages, looks beyond Beverley itself to the six villages that lie in a neat circle surrounding the town, and includes Walkington, Bishop Burton, Cherry Burton, Leconfield, Tickton and Woodmansey.
