Council Consults On Five-Year Homelessness Strategy

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is seeking feedback on a new strategy which sets out how the council and its partners will work together to tackle the causes of homelessness and meet the needs of people without access to their own home.

The new strategy builds on the work of the last, published in 2013, and has been developed using the findings of a review into homelessness undertaken in the summer of 2017.

The full-scale replica of Amy Johnson’s Gipsy Moth crafted by prisoners of HMP Hull during Hull UK City of Culture 2017 has found a new home in the city.

The plane was originally installed in Paragon Station in February last year as part of Hull 2017’s Creative Communities Programme during the Made in Hull season. Since then it has welcomed around 30,000 people a day, including the Queen, Sadiq Khan and Goldie. Now it is set to move next door to St Stephen’s shopping centre for a year.

Illegal Tobacco Seized In Hull

Around 40,000 illegal cigarettes and 5kg of illegal tobacco have been seized in Hull. Enforcement officers from Hull City Council’s Trading Standards team used tobacco detection dogs to find the contraband.

Which was equivalent to around 2,000 packs of cigarettes and 100 pouches of tobacco – during intelligence-led inspections at a number of businesses in the West Hull area. Investigations are now underway.
