Hull Hosts UK Public Film Premiere Of ‘One Summer When You Went Away’

Hull is to host the UK public film premiere of the internationally-award winning feature One Summer When You Went Away in the city’s Old Town next Friday evening, November 19th.

Set in Hull and East Yorkshire and starring Laurence Ellerker, Laura Peterson, Kenneth Mguni, Stan Haywood and Angela Stone, the new 90-minute film has been described as ‘gritty but moving’ and ‘surprisingly sweet’ by festival audiences.

Veterans Travel Free On Remembrance Sunday

Veterans and serving military personnel will be able to travel on buses for free on Remembrance Sunday.

Bus company East Yorkshire will be showing their respect for the achievements and sacrifices of the armed forces by allowing current and past members of the military to board any of their buses for free on Sunday 14 November, to allow easier access to Remembrance Day parades and ceremonies.

East Riding College has expanded its Flemingate site in Beverley to include a new Yorkshire and Humber Institute of Technology (IoT). 

The IoT in Yorkshire and Humber has brought investment of over £10million of capital funding into the region.  The £2.1m Institute at East Riding College houses specialist high-level training facilities for engineering and technical disciplines.

An estimated 25 people in the UK start to lose their sight every day. With the charity getting just 1% of its funding from government sources, volunteer’s play a key role.

The Hull Vigil Reaches 6 Month Mark In The Year-Long Event

The Hull Vigil has reached the halfway point. Starting on 3 May 2021 and finishing on 3 May 2022, every day at sunrise and sunset a vigil keeps watch over Hull from a bespoke structure located on top of the Hull College building.

So far 365 people will have taken part in the vigil, each having their picture taken following their vigil and setting out in writing their unique experience immediately after they leave the shelter.
