EU Regulation Is A Disaster For Holderness Fishermen Says MP

Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart has condemned a new EU Regulation that threatens the livelihoods of Holderness coast beach fishermen and has written to the Fisheries Minister, George Eustice, to ask him to pursue an exemption for Holderness.

The Regulation includes a total ban on targeted sea bass fishing from the shore, jeopardising the future of men like Shaun Wingham, who fishes near Withernsea using the centuries-old practice of onshore fishing, whereby a net is stretched out along the shoreline at low tide and the catch is brought in when it retreats again. Sea bass is the most valuable part of their haul.

Revolutionary Makers is a large scale collaborative commission, which will culminate in an installation in Hull City Hall ahead of WOW Hull (10-12 March), part of a global movement to champion gender equality. Through a weekend of talks, music, debate, comedy and performance, WOW Hull will celebrate International Women’s Day.

Home Bargains Found Guilty Of Selling Unsafe Chargers

National retailer TJ Morris Ltd, which trades as Home Bargains, has pleaded guilty to three electrical safety offences and ordered to pay £22,300 in fines and costs after selling thousands of unsafe chargers to consumers in 2015. The case was heard at Hull Magistrates Court last Friday, February 3.

In October 2015 a shopper in Hull bought one of the dual USB chargers from a Home Bargains store in the city. During its first use, the device exploded and came apart, with the components visibly charred.
