Unique Shop Of Poems Is Opening In Hull This Weekend

Over the last few months, Polish poet Bohdan Piasecki has been taking his Pop-up Poetry Station around Hull, gathering stories and writing poems with the local Polish community as part of Hull Gada.

Form Sunday 24 September to Saturday 30 September his work will be displayed in Princes Quay at Hull Gada Shop of Poems offering a glimpse into this foreign world, steeped in art and culture, just a language away.

Pioneering Photographer Karl Blossfeld To Be Showcased in Beverley

Karl Blossfeldt: Art Forms in Nature is a Hayward Touring exhibition from Southbank Centre, London, which presents an original portfolio of 40 photogravures from 1932. 

The photogravures were titled ‘Wundergarten der Natur’ and were edited by the artist and published in the year of his death. The exhibition gives an opportunity to see an exemplary set of Blossfeldt’s signature close-up images of plants and flora.

Café Velo, Beverley’s popular themed cycling café in North Bar Within, has been granted a reprieve by planning officers, who just a few weeks ago were recommending that planning permission should be refused; a move which would have led to the closure of the thriving business.

At the Council’s Eastern Area Planning Committee, in June, Café Velo, which had been operating without planning permission for a change of use from retail to restaurant for 12 months, was faced with a recommendation from Council Officers for refused planning permission because certain paperwork wasn’t in order, and there had also been complaints about noise disturbance from local residents.

Newland Avenue will reopen temporarily on Monday 2 October for two weeks to allow full access to Hull Fair for public transport, emergency services, and motorists.

Phase one has been completed ahead of schedule, allowing the road to be reopened. This will give unrestricted access to businesses along Newland Avenue, and allow the scheduled bus services to travel along the street during this period.
