Lit Up Festival is thrilled to present a newly commissioned work by one of the UK’s most performed playwrights, John Godber, which will tour East Riding Libraries at the end of this month, as part of the Out of this Word programme.

John has worked alongside a trio of emerging playwrights from The Writing Squad: Georgia Affonso; Ruby Lawrence and Lydia Marchant, to re-imagine East Riding histories. The piece is entitled HERE and NOW and it will see three trainee librarians battling with books, boilers and bad parking as they uncover amazing stories!

ADOPTION WEEK : Can You Help A Child Thrive In A New Home

Adoption staff from East Riding of Yorkshire Council are holding a series of information sessions to encourage more people to consider adopting a child.

As part of National Adoption Week (16 to 22 October), staff will be at venues in Beverley, Market Weighton and Haltemprice to talk to people who may be considering adoption, to hand out leaflets and to answer any questions they may have.

Joanne Clifton has announced she will continue in her role of Alex Owens in the smash hit UK tour Flashdance – The Musical following a short Christmas Break, which includes Bridlington Spa from Tuesday 13 to Saturday 17 March 2018.

Joanne Clifton says of her continuing role. “I am having the best time ever on this tour and so am delighted to be staying on for 2018. We have so much fun on stage and off, and I really am dancing like I’ve never danced before!”

Beverley Beavers U9s saw off Bridlington RUFC in their second game of the season. There was lots to praise and glimpses of brilliance throughout the game.

Given that the team have only recently got to grips with the contact game we saw barn storming runs, followed by well executed tackles, and efficient presentation of the ball.

Beverley RUFC Enjoy Good Home Win Against Keighley At Beaver Park

Beverley RUFC kicked off on a wet and blustery afternoon at Beaver Park to start this Yorkshire Division 1 fixture, and immediately mounted an assault on the Keighley line.

But, largely due to determined defence by Keighley, were unable to capitalise on their possession of the ball in the early exchanges. In fact during this early period Keighley were unable to hang on to the ball for long enough to get out of their own half.

Council Dismiss Claims They Are ‘Axing Wardens’ From Sheltered Housing

East Riding of Yorkshire Council say they have no plans to remove wardens from shelter housing they offer but are merely looking to create new roles and make better use of the resources they have.

Their comments come after claims were made by George McManus, a member of the Beverley Labour’s movement who claimed they are about to scrap wardens to save cash.
