Molescroft Parish Council Restore Village’s Roll of Honour

As the anniversary to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I approaches later this year, Molescroft Parish Council has restored the village’s Roll of Honour.

Parish Councillors David Boynton & Jackie Heffer formed a working group, with the aim of restoring the Roll of Honour which lists the names of 20 Molescroft servicemen who took up the call to arms in the conflict. The roll records the death of only one serviceman Lieutenant Edmund Wigfall Military cross.

Additional Sea Of Hull Photograph To Join Ferens’ Permanent Collection

An additional Sea of Hull image, by Spencer Tunick, will join the Ferens Art Gallery’s permanent collection as a result of generous donations made by the public with the support of the Friends of the Ferens.

Three artworks were on display as part of the dramatic SKIN exhibition last year, and now a fourth image with join the collection as a fantastic reminder of that unique day on Saturday 9 July 2016 when Hull made worldwide headlines.

Letters to parents telling them the outcome of their applications for secondary places in September are being sent out today, Thursday, 1 March. All local authorities in England have to send the letters out on the same date.

Changes To Mobile Phone Penalties – One Year On

On 1 March 2017, the penalty charge for using a hand held mobile phone whilst driving was changed from a £100 fine to £200 and from three to six points on your driving licence. It is now a year since the changes came into place.

Latest figures from Safer Roads Humber show that 658 drivers were detected using a handheld mobile phone whilst driving in 2017 (Jan – Dec 2017) of which over 400 people have had the opportunity to attend a driver training course. This is in comparison to the 1,200 drivers detected in 2016 for the same offence.

Beverley and Holderness MP, Graham Stuart, says his new CADEY (Community Access Defibrillators for East Yorkshire) campaign will address the patchy coverage of these potentially life-saving machines. CADEY brings together local fundraisers, charities and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to drive a more comprehensive strategy towards defibrillators.

Graham was speaking ahead of the second meeting of the CADEY committee, which will be responsible for encouraging fundraising, improving coverage and increasing awareness of where heart defibrillators are and how to use them.

Beverley in Bloom, a subgroup of Beverley Town Council has started preparing the town to look its best for this year’s Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom Finals competition.

This is the first year that Beverley in Bloom have been selected to go forward to RHS Britain in Bloom, following the successes at regional level over the past few years, where Beverley in Bloom attained Gold, overall large town category winners for two years running and also the Yorkshire Rose Certificate in 2017 for best overall town.
