Viola Campaign To Benefit From Calendar Of Famous Ships

Trustees behind a campaign to bring the world’s oldest remaining steam trawler back to its home in Hull will be crossing off the days after taking delivery of a commemorative calendar and revealing the ship could be back next summer.

The Viola Trust unveiled the “Homeward Bound” calendar to sponsors at a special launch event held at 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar.

East Yorkshire Judo Academy accepted an invite by Klungsbacka Judoklubb to travel to Sweden for a weekend of competition and training.

The team of 7 players aged between 12 and 17 years old and along with 2 of EYJA’s coaches, made the trip to compete at the Gothenburg Open Judo Tournament. Klungsbacka Judo offered superb hospitality allowing the East Yorkshire squad to stay at their club.

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, has written to schools in Beverley and Holderness to encourage them to get involved in the National Cyber Security Centre’s CyberFirst Girls’ Competition.

Created in 2016 as part of the Government’s National Cyber Security Strategy to respond to evolving digital threats to the country’s infrastructure, the NCSC runs CyberFirst; which is a series of freely available short cyber courses aimed at teaching children aged 11-17 about cybersecurity.

The charity raises money for Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. Funds raised will enable the opening of a sensory room for children with additional needs including Autism, ADHD, ADD, or for children experiencing anxiety or trauma attending the Hull and East Yorkshire Eye Hospital.

Two Elwell Paintings from the unique collection of the work of Fred and Mary Elwell at Beverley Art Gallery have made the journey to York to form part of a major exhibition there.

The two paintings loaned to York Art Gallery are Fred Elwell’s ‘Refugees in my Studio’ from 1940, and ‘Artist in his studio’, an undated work, but probably dating to earlier in his career at the turn of the century.

Hundreds of pounds worth of drugs have been seized by officers from an address in Hull.

Officers carried out a warrant under section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act at an address on 31st Avenue, where an amount of class B drugs were found along with around £1500 in cash.
