Huge Increase In Downloads Of Free Ebooks And Audiobooks From East Riding Libraries

East Riding Libraries have seen a huge 329% increase in the number of eBooks downloaded since March 2020, and a 95.5% increase in the number of audiobooks downloaded free with their library memberships.

Librarian Pamela Taylor-Bramwell explained:  “We’ve been delighted to have welcomed over 4,500 new members (in addition to our 45,000 existing members!) since March 2020.

A dyslexic entrepreneur is seeking the help of businesses and employees as he works to develop an assistive tool that will make email easier for people who share his condition.

Hull-based Dileepa Ranawake, who was diagnosed with dyslexia at 18, is drawing on his background in technology and health projects to create Jisterly.ai, which will enable dyslexic people to read and prioritise their emails up to five times faster without having to open them.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is developing a £1.2 million scheme to improve the A164 junction with the B1232 at Willerby, also known as The Ketch roundabout.

Queues are often formed on the approaches to the roundabout, particularly on the B1232 from Willerby as motorists wait to turn right onto the A164 towards Beverley. Traffic is forecast to increase in the future with new housing to be built in the area.

Beverley Man Fined £3,119 For Fly-Tipping Offences

A man from Beverley has been ordered to pay £3,119.41 after two incidents of fly-tipping in August 2019.

Dominic Dixon, of Canterbury Close, Beverley, pleaded not guilty to an offence under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 when attending court in January 2020. Following delays due to COVID-19, the case was heard at Hull Magistrates Court on 25 March 2021 with Mr Dixon failing to attend court.
