Christmas Lights Switch On Event Axed But Town Will Get More Lights

Beverley Christmas Lights Appeal will not be staging an event this year in the town centre. News of their decision means the only event will take place at the Flemingate retail park.

A spokesperson for the group said that there were better ways to spend money. They felt it made more sense to increase the volume of lights rather than pay for an event.

Beverley’s Labour Party members have hit out at the Budget branding it nothing more than ‘smoke and mirrors’ adding it will fuel poverty.

Labour’s comments come after the Phillip Hammond delivered his 2018 Autumn Budget. In the budget additional money for schools,  defence, the NHS and local authorities was all made available by the Chancellor.

Peter Ward Homes, a Beverley based developer have assisted a local school by funding a building that the school say will be used for storage.

Skirlaugh CE Primary School approached Peter Ward Homes for a contribution to help purchase a shed. Peter Ward Homes decided they would pay for the shed outright rather than make a contribution.
