Help shape local policing in 2026

Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Jonathan Evison has a statutory responsibility to set the policing precept each year and as part of that process must seek the views of residents on police funding.

Around 65% of police funding comes from central Government and the rest is raised through a portion of your Council Tax known as the Policing Precept. The Government made its police funding announcement on 18 December 2025.

East Riding developers fined for wilful damage of trees in a conservation area

On Wednesday 17 December local developers Wayne Low and Richmond Properties pleaded guilty at Beverley Magistrates Court, to causing or permitting the wilful damage of a sycamore tree and unauthorised felling of a pear tree. Both trees were located in Etton Conservation Area. 

A pear tree was completely removed, and a sycamore tree had damaging works undertaken to it which reduced its amenity value and negatively impacted upon the conservation area.

Residents warned of fake parking charge texts

Residents are being warned of a parking charge text scam, where they are informed of bogus parking charges, encouraging them to pay immediately.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council does not send text messages about parking fines, and the texts are fraudulent.

East Riding of Yorkshire council launches consultation on planning obligations guidance

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is inviting comments on a draft supplementary planning document (SPD) on planning obligations. The consultation will be open from Monday 8 September until 11.59 on Monday 20 October.

Supplementary planning documents provide more detailed advice and guidance on the application of policies in a Local Plan. This draft SPD will complement the policies in the East Riding Local Plan Update, which was adopted in April 2025.
