Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Jonathan Evison has a statutory responsibility to set the policing precept each year and as part of that process must seek the views of residents on police funding.

Around 65% of police funding comes from central Government and the rest is raised through a portion of your Council Tax known as the Policing Precept. The Government made its police funding announcement on 18 December 2025.

On Wednesday 17 December local developers Wayne Low and Richmond Properties pleaded guilty at Beverley Magistrates Court, to causing or permitting the wilful damage of a sycamore tree and unauthorised felling of a pear tree. Both trees were located in Etton Conservation Area. 

A pear tree was completely removed, and a sycamore tree had damaging works undertaken to it which reduced its amenity value and negatively impacted upon the conservation area. 

East Riding of Yorkshire Council successfully secured a closure order on 139 South Back Lane in Bridlington, on Tuesday 16 December, at Beverley Magistrates Court.

This property had been causing issues in the community for some time, with alleged links to organised crime groups using this property as a base for dealing drugs.

Residents are being warned of a parking charge text scam, where they are informed of bogus parking charges, encouraging them to pay immediately.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council does not send text messages about parking fines, and the texts are fraudulent.

The Beverley Festival of Christmas, the largest one-day yuletide market in the UK, will be returning to the town on Sunday, 14 December.

The festival, organised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and sponsored by The Beverley Arms – part of hospitality company Thwaites, is now in its 29th year.

Ashley Campbell heads to the UK this November in support of her recently released third studio album ‘Goodnight Nashville’ which includes a date in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

With Halloween just around the corner, East Riding Libraries’ successful costume swap scheme is returning to selected branches and mobile libraries.

The scheme gives children the opportunity to donate a costume and collect a “new to you” costume to take home from selected sites.

Yorkshire Cricket, the Rugby Football League (RFL) and the three Football Associations representing North Riding, East Riding and Lincolnshire, have formally joined the Humber and North Yorkshire UNITED collective, a pioneering initiative launched in April 2025 to unite sport in Humber and North Yorkshire around mental health, suicide prevention, and self-harm awareness.

Volunteer drivers are being sought for a new community transport service running in Bridlington. 

Bridlington Local Community Lift aims to help local residents without their own transport get to vital medical appointments they might otherwise struggle to attend.

Stoptober – now in its 14th year – aims to empower people to give up smoking during October, as evidence shows people are 5 times more likely to quit for good if they can make it to at least 28 days smoke free.

Wednesday, 24 September is National Fitness Day, to celebrate East Riding of Yorkshire Council are offering current members the opportunity to ‘Bring a Friend for Free’ across all East Riding Leisure centres.

This fantastic offer will run for one week from Wednesday, 24 September to Wednesday, 1 October. Members are able to bring a friend or family member to enjoy the use of facilities including swimming, classes, gym and sports hall.

When the York-based theatre company, Next Door But One last took their production of She Was Walking Home on tour, The Office for National Statistics (ONS) had just released data on how safe people feel in different public settings.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is inviting comments on a draft supplementary planning document (SPD) on planning obligations. The consultation will be open from Monday 8 September until 11.59 on Monday 20 October.

Supplementary planning documents provide more detailed advice and guidance on the application of policies in a Local Plan. This draft SPD will complement the policies in the East Riding Local Plan Update, which was adopted in April 2025.  

A new campaign has been launched across Humber and North Yorkshire to reduce medicine waste – and encourage people to only order the repeat prescriptions they need.

The campaign, Only Order What You Need, highlights the cost of unused medicines to the local NHS, as well as safety concerns and the environmental impact of medicine waste.
