Hull Food Bank has been given a funding boost by McCarthy Stone Foundation to bring festive cheer to locals this Christmas.

In preparation for the holiday season, McCarthy Stone, which operates four Retirement Living developments in the East Riding of Yorkshire, has donated £500 to Hull Foodbank.

The Hull Foodbank was established in 2011 as part of the Trussell Trust Food Bank network, which fights poverty and hunger across the country.

Local in crisis are provided with three days of nutritionally balanced emergency food and support by the Foodbank. In addition to its city centre location, it operates a food bank centre in East Hull, making food collection easier for residents there.

Russ Barlow from Hull Foodbank said:

“This is a really timely donation from McCarthy Stone as we approach what is traditionally our busiest time of the year. More families and older people than ever seem to be struggling and coming to us for help due to rapidly rising costs across the board – not just for food but for other items too. This £500 will allow us to purchase and give out additional food parcels so we can do more to ensure nobody in the Hull area misses out on some festive fare this Christmas.”

McCarthy Stone Foundation supports causes that promote the health and wellbeing of older people at the grassroots level. McCarthy Stone is a UK-based developer and manager of retirement communities, which includes Andrews Court in , Fairway View in Brough, Springs Court in , and Stapleton Court in Swanland.

Graeme Marsh, Foundation Manager at the McCarthy Stone Foundation, added:

“We were eager to do something to help the local community in Hull, where many people are experiencing hard times through no fault of their own.”

“Hull Foodbank does so much good throughout the year but especially at Christmas when its vital work ensures many people really can enjoy this special time of year. Their volunteers work tirelessly to ensure support is provided to those who need it, and we are delighted that our donation will allow them to do even more for the local community this festive season.”
