Many are reflecting on the lifetime of dedication and service of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following the sad news of her death.

During her state funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19 September, City Council will provide residents and visitors with the opportunity to gather in Queen Victoria Square to watch.

There will be a screen showing live coverage from the BBC from London, and there will also be some seating.

Hull City Council Leader, Councillor Mike Ross, said:

“We have seen over the last week how the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has affected so many people.”

“By showing the funeral on a big screen in Hull city centre we hope this gives the residents of Hull the opportunity to come together as a community and pay their respects together.”

“I would encourage the residents of Hull to come together on Monday, particularly those who would otherwise have been on their own.”

The Queen’s Funeral Screening Should End By 4.30PM

It is advised that those travelling into the city centre check their travel plans as East Yorkshire and Stagecoach buses are operating Sunday services.

Queen Victoria Square toilets will remain open and the city centre’s car parks will remain open. A coffee cart will also be available in the Square.

Several cafes and also restaurants will be open for the day, but most retail stores are closed. After the Windsor service ends, the screening will end at 4.30pm.
